Gas Production
Gas was produced from the Kinsale Head area in the Celtic Sea from 1978 until 2020. Kinsale Gas enabled Ireland to be self sufficient in gas supply until 1995, and was instrumental in the development of the national natural gas network in Ireland.

The gas reserves were fully depleted by 2020, and production ceased on July 5th 2020, after close to 42 years of continuous production.
The facilities are now being decommissioned - this process will occur over a number of years and is expected to be complete by 2023.
